Healthy Living Pays Off December 346, 2007 The New Beginnings classes, a product of the Cardiac Resource Center, sponsored by the HeartBright Foundation, had an opportunity to see another way that living a heart-healthy lifestyle pays off. At their annual Holiday party, held Tuesday, December 11, they enjoyed an auction where items could be purchased only with "Wellness Bucks." These "bucks" could be earned only through the students' accomplishments in diet, exercise, and program or medical visit attendance.
HeartBright founder Claire Blocker was the auctioneer at the party. Students bid for Platters concert tickets, restaurant and store gift certificates, beauty treatments, home décor items, an exercise bike, and more.
Students could earn Wellness bucks for coming to class, being on time, not skipping meals and eating right. They were rewarded for exercising 30 minutes or more 4 times a week, drinking 64 ounces of water daily, and reaching goals for blood pressure, and weight loss set by the HeartBright Clinic medical team.
"Earning Wellness Bucks each week while improving your lifestyle helps to motivate our students," said Claire Blocker. "It makes achieving their goals fun as well as fit."
Students can also cash in their "bucks" on heart-healthy groceries at the HeartBright Resource Center that serves the residents of Brookhill, Southside and Wilmore areas.
HeartBright is a non-profit (C) (3) public charity that increases awareness about cardiovascular health and related diseases.
