  Alan D. Hartley, DC., Ph.D.
Lake Wylie Family Chiropractors
Dr. Alan Hartley, a native of Yorkshire England, was educated at the University of Surrey and the University of Kent at Canterbury where he earned a bachelor's in microbiology and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Genetics, respectively. During his graduate and postgraduate education he lived and worked in Germany and Switzerland on collaborative projects with Nestle and the GBF, becoming fluent in French and (less so) in German.

During Dr. Hartley's postgraduate career, he became enamored of a North Carolinian, Elizabeth, causing him to abandon his mother country and live in the States. He completed his postdoctoral studies at Duke University Medical Center conducting research into the molecular basis of oncogenesis (cancer). In his desire to have a more direct contact with patients, he left his research career after 4 years at Duke to become a chiropractor. During his chiropractic studies at Sherman College, Dr. Hartley was hired as a professor of biochemistry and nutrition. On graduating, he became the head of the Basic Sciences department. Dr. Hartley left this position after six years of service in order to open a chiropractic clinic in Lake Wylie and be closer to extended family.

Besides his chosen career, Dr. Hartley places emphasis on family and community service. He is a first responder and member of the River Hills Emergency Services, volunteering a night shift each weekend. He is an active member of River Hills Community Church and the local Lions Club, serving as the chairman of their Sight Committee. He is also on the board for the Kenya Orphanage Project, which is building an orphanage, school and medical facilities for orphans outside of Nairobi. Dr. Hartley and Elizabeth have three young children that keep them very busy and thankful for all Gods blessings
